George Anton Schlosser

George Schlosser, of Calgary, has passed away at the age 97 years, after, by his own account, a full and rewarding life.

He was born and raised in Grassy Lake, Alberta. As a young adult he lived in numerous places in Western Canada, eventually landing in Edmonton and then Calgary, all while employed by Imperial Oil. He found his work rewarding and interesting and therefore he considered himself a lucky man.  In 1956, he married Eleanor Frederking and they had two sons, Graham and Ralph.

George was a generous and kind man, a true gentleman, and always maintained a positive outlook on life regardless of the circumstances. He was devoted to his family and loved their many vacations which took them from coast to coast to coast.  Long weekends spent at their cabin near Kamloops, B.C. were also a favored family activity. Always curious, George was a seeker of knowledge from any field but especially geography, science and finance.  He was an engaging storyteller.

George was predeceased by the love of his life, Eleanor, in 2019.  He was forever smitten with her and only talked of her with the greatest of admiration.  They were married for 63 years.  He was also predeceased by his son Ralph, in 2024. George was the last of nine siblings born to Rochus and Eleanora Schlosser: Julia, John, Mary, Frank, Ray, Lena, Irene, George and Henry.

He is survived by his son Graham and numerous nieces and nephews.

George wanted a thank-you extended to Dr. Mark Joyce for his long-term and devoted care both of Eleanor and himself, and currently Graham.  He also wanted a thank-you to go to the friendly and caring staff of Staywell Manor where he was a resident since 2011.  He truly felt at home there, and credited staff with playing a significant role in his enjoyment of life. George was also grateful for the excellent care he received at the Rockyview General Hospital, especially over the last two years.

George will be missed by many.
